Millions of starlings in Somerset
If you're visiting Somerset during the winter, the starlings in the Avalon Marshes are a sight not to be missed.

The starlings are the Avalon Marshes biggest attraction for birdwatchers and arrive early autumn and stay through to February. Several million starlings fill the sky as they arrive to roost among the reeds each afternoon before dusk.
The roost occurs around dusk each day, but may be a little earlier if the weather is poor. It is advisable to arrive at least an hour before dusk to allow plenty of time to locate the site the birds are using and get a suitable vantage point. How to get there
By Road
Westhay Moor NNR (ST 456 437) is north of Westhay village. The car park is just off the road to Godney, at the junction with Daggs Lane Drove.
By Bus
Service 668 (Street to Lower Langford) runs from Monday to Saturday and stops in Westhay village).
By Bicycle
A National Cycle Network route runs along a disused railway line, just south of Westhay village. Bicycles can be left in the rack near the car park.
